‘Hraparak’. Meshchyan believes Marutyan has ‘spoiled’ him: the whole story is known
‘Hraparak’ newspaper writes: “As much as the authorities claim they will rid themselves of the ‘remnants of the former regime,’ in reality, the most prominent representatives of the former regime do not feel bad at all during this time, and many can be said to continue to hold positions or influence major decision-making.
We were told the whole story of the appointment and tenure of Yerevan's chief architect, Arthur Meshchyan. When mayor Haik Marutyan offered him the important post, Meshchyan set one condition: the former architect of Yerevan, Narek Sargsyan, must give his approval. And Haik Marutyan was forced to seek Narek Sargsyan’s permission.
For two years in office, Arthur Meshchyan constantly communicated and consulted with Narek Sargsyan on all matters. They met and dined together almost every week. When working with Haik Marutyan became impossible, as he severely restricted the chief architect’s freedom and made any issue exceptionally complicated to resolve, Meshchyan decided to resign.
Now he speaks in ‘final’ words regarding Marutyan, considering that he has been taken and ‘spoiled’ by him.”
