Former MP Raises Alarm: A Registered Grey Bear Cub in the Red Book Has Been Killed

David Grigoryan, spokesperson for the Ministry of Environment, has announced on his Facebook page that former MP Lyova Khachatryan shared a video regarding the killing of a grey bear cub registered in Armenia's "Red Book." Following the urgent instructions of Minister of Environment Romanos Petrosyan, relevant documents will be sent to the Police of Armenia and the Environmental and Mining Inspection Body to thoroughly investigate the incident and clarify the circumstances.

Any offense against any species listed in Armenia's "Red Book" is unacceptable, as every animal inhabiting Armenia's natural environment is an integral part of our country's ecosystem and a crucial link in the preservation of biodiversity. The conservation and protection of red-listed species is paramount, as it aligns with the interests of all citizens of the Republic of Armenia.

The Ministry of Environment condemns such treatment towards animals. It is important to note that the killing of grey bears registered in the Red Book of the Republic of Armenia carries penalties under the RA Criminal Code: a fine ranging from 400 to 600 times the minimum wage or imprisonment for a period of 2-3 months, along with compensating damages of 1 to 5 million drams.

We thank Mr. Khachatryan for raising this issue. We urge all citizens of the Republic of Armenia to immediately report such incidents to the Police, the Environmental and Mining Inspection Body, or contact the Ministry of Environment.
