Fact: Mayors' Issues Will Be Reassessed, This Time in the Context of Criminal Cases
The newspaper "Fact" writes: "Expert circles believe that the local self-government sector is a sensitive area for the current authorities, where Nikol Pashinyan feels quite at ease. According to the information we have received, another wave of clarifications is expected in this regard, which we will witness by the end of the year.
In particular, the newspaper has learned that during a meeting last week, almost all regional governors were instructed to thoroughly investigate and have a comprehensive picture of which mayors currently have criminal proceedings against them in the investigative committee and the Special Investigation Service.
According to our sources, the authorities are preparing to get rid of those mayors who are either representatives of the "previous corrupt" system or simply became mayors during that period, using rather tough methods, including the pretext of obtaining illegal property. There are quite a few such individuals. By doing so, they are trying to completely "cleanse" the local self-government system and include members of their own team in the management process on the ground.
Essentially, this will be yet another attempt in that direction, as for two years, the authorities have not spared any effort to rid themselves of mayors who are not "one of theirs", regardless of their work quality."
