Georg Muradyan Elected Chairman of YSU Board of Trustees Only with Support from the Ministry of Education

There was certainly support from the Ministry of Education and Science for Georg Muradyan. This was stated today, August 25, in a conversation with journalists by David Apoyan, the president of the student council of Yerevan State University (YSU), commenting on the re-election of Georg Muradyan as the chairman of the YSU Board of Trustees.

“In my surroundings at the university, there are very few people who adequately assess Georg Muradyan’s actions over the last 1.5 years as the chairman of the Board of Trustees. Numerous actions have served the interests of the university. In particular, the more than 20 lawsuits filed against the university indicate that there were agenda items included that were illegal, and most of them have received provision in the case. Not to mention that entering the court against YSU with a testimony is already a blow to the university,” he said.

Apoyan expressed his belief that Georg Muradyan was elected only with the approval of the government: “Although there were also voters from among the university community, in my opinion, yes, he was not actually elected, but appointed with the support of the government.” He also added that the recent actions of Georg Muradyan did not serve the interests of the university, but rather the narrow political interests of Minister of Education and Science Arayik Harutyunyan. “The Minister of Education and Science has personal ambitions here, which are satisfied through the hands of other people,” said Apoyan.
