Gas Pipeline Explosion in Syria Classified as Terrorism, Minister Says
The explosion of a gas pipeline in the Damascus province of Syria early this morning, which resulted in a nationwide power outage, has been classified as an act of terrorism. According to the TASS news agency, this statement was made by Ali Ghanim, the Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources of Syria.
“After assessing the situation, it has been confirmed that the explosion that occurred between the regions of Adra and Douma was the result of a terrorist act,” the minister's words were cited by the Syrian Al Ekhbariya television.
Ghanim also added that specialists have managed to resolve the disruptions at all electricity plants across the republic, which are now ready for operations. According to the minister, it will be possible to restore electricity supply throughout Syria within the next few hours.
The media also reported that firefighters have successfully neutralized the fire caused by the explosion.
As previously reported, the explosion of the gas pipeline near Damascus had left all of Syria without electricity.
