Charges Filed Against Grandfather and His Daughter for Abusing Children in Tavush
In the Tavush regional investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia, a criminal case has revealed the circumstances surrounding the physical and psychological abuse inflicted on minors by a 57-year-old resident of the Kashatarak community and his daughter. Previously, it was reported that the 57-year-old man, due to his disturbed rest, intentionally inflicted serious injuries on his minor grandson, born in 2014, by striking him multiple times with his hands, feet, and a stick on various parts of his body. As a result, the 6-year-old child fell and struck his head against a leg of the sofa, sustaining numerous life-threatening injuries and was transported unconscious to the Arabkir Medical Center.
Additionally, on August 14 and 16, 2020, and during an unspecified period under investigation, the 57-year-old man repeatedly inflicted numerous blows with his hands and feet on his two minor grandsons’ bodies for the same reason, causing them severe physical pain and psychological suffering.
According to the evidence collected during the investigation, his 28-year-old daughter also repeatedly and intentionally struck her five minor children, as well as the two minor sons of her brother who lived with them, using her hands, feet, sticks, and other objects, resulting in severe physical pain and psychological suffering.
With sufficient evidence gathered, the 57-year-old man has been charged under Article 112 (deliberate infliction of serious bodily harm) and Article 119 (causing severe physical pain or psychological suffering) of the Criminal Code of Armenia. He has been detained. His 28-year-old daughter has also been charged under Article 119. A motion has been submitted to the court requesting her detention as a preventive measure, which was not approved. The preliminary investigation is ongoing.
