Hraparak: The End of the Crisis is Not in Sight. August 26 is the Deadline for Forming the Constitutional Court Composition
When the government, the General Assembly of Judges, and the President of the Republic presented their candidates for the Constitutional Court judge, it seemed that the Court would be completed and the process would come to an end. However, it turned out that all three candidacies are not being unanimously accepted.
The candidate proposed by the government, Vahram Avetisyan, had to announce his self-withdrawal, and in his place, the government is reportedly set to propose the candidacy of Edgar Shatiryanc. The latter was briefly a member of the Corruption Prevention Commission last year, but when it was decided to appoint a commission chair through a political compromise, assigning it to Haygukh Harutyunyan of the LHK quota, Shatiryanc resigned.
Rumors circulated that he was displeased with the team. Tomorrow, there will be a meeting between the candidate and the 'My Step' bloc, and in the meantime, the government will officially announce his nomination. His candidacy has been suggested to the government by legal parliamentarians.
However, the situation in 'My Step' has not changed regarding Arthur Vagharyan, who was already rejected once by them after being nominated by the president. The parliamentarians are determined – 'they will not lick the spit'; he will not be elected.
On the contrary, a large part is favorable towards the candidate nominated by the General Assembly of Judges, Yervand Khundkaryan. He is also being considered for the position of President of the Constitutional Court. During a meeting with 'My Step' on August 19, he was not offended, although he is considered a proxy of the former authorities.
The thing is, there is a deficit of qualified personnel, and a respected lawyer does not want to get involved in a process that has an uncertain future, while the government cannot change candidates indefinitely; August 26 is the deadline for forming the Constitutional Court composition.
