Serzh Sargsyan on 80s Weaponry and Not Using Iskander

Former President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan held a press conference for the first time since his resignation, which he had promised months ago after a meeting with members of the investigative commission examining the circumstances of the April War in the National Assembly.

During the press conference, the former president referred to his famous statement made in Germany in 2016, where he mentioned that “our soldiers were fighting with 80s weapons.” He stated, “My statement became a topic for speculation. Is there any army in the world that does not have weapons from the 80s? If such an army is found, then I will declare that I know nothing about these matters. Today, almost all of the armored vehicles and small arms in the Armenian army are from the 80s. There are also weapons from the 40s and 50s in our army and many other armies as well... As for why Iskander was not used, it’s because the four-day war was not primarily a large-scale war, and if we had used it, it would have been, as they say, firing cannon shots at sparrows. It was not the right place for it; it is a very powerful weapon,” the former president declared.
