Turkey Deploys Strike UAVs in Iraqi Kurdistan: Karen Hovhannisyan
Military expert Karen Hovhannisyan wrote on his Facebook page: "Turkey has deployed strike UAVs in Iraqi Kurdistan. The targets of these strike UAVs, according to Turkish sources, are PKK militants; however, reality shows that the Peshmerga, the military structure of Iraqi Kurdistan, is also in the crosshairs.
On August 14, a Turkish UAV targeted a Peshmerga colonel along with his accompanying personnel in the Sidakan region of Erbil province. The commander of the 2nd brigade of the Peshmerga, Colonel Salam Mohammad, was attacked by a Turkish strike UAV while visiting the 'Zuber Hali' memorial in the Gurush brigade, although the commander managed to evade the UAV thanks to his quick reflexes.
This incident did not end there. When the Turkish UAV appeared, PKK militants also began firing at the commander, resulting in damage to the accompanying vehicle. None of the ten vehicles accompanying the colonel were harmed. The colonel, along with his team, was on his way to pay tribute to the memory of Iraqi border guard Zuber Hali, who had been killed by a Turkish strike UAV on August 11.
It is worth noting that last Friday, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry held an urgent phone conversation with the foreign ministers of France and Germany, as well as the UK Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa. They called upon the Europeans to play an active role in ensuring that Turkey promptly withdraws its forces from Iraq and ceases its attacks within Iraqi territory."
