Soil Investigation at Beirut Port Did Not Reveal Signs of Shelling

Soil samples taken from the Beirut port have shown that the site has not been subjected to shelling. This was reported by Al Arabiya television on August 18, citing Lebanese sources.

“The elemental analysis of the soil taken from the port did not detect signs of shelling,” the report stated.

A powerful explosion occurred at the Beirut port on August 4, destroying and damaging dozens of buildings, leaving more than 300,000 people homeless. The tragedy resulted in 178 fatalities, with around 6,000 injured and dozens considered missing.

The Governor of Beirut, Marwan Aboud, told TASS that the reconstruction of the city will require between $12 to $15 billion.

On August 15, Lebanese President Michel Aoun announced that investigators have not yet been able to determine the cause of the explosion and continue to discuss all possible scenarios. He added that Lebanon needs to obtain satellite imagery to assess whether a missile could have been the cause of the explosion.
