Criminal Proceedings Initiated in Ukraine Over Foreign Ministry Official's Call to Avoid Mentioning the Armenian Genocide
The State Bureau of Investigation has initiated a criminal case under Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, based on materials submitted by individuals regarding a surprising call directed at civil servants to avoid even mentioning the term "Armenian Genocide" on the eve of the Memorial Day. This was reported by Daria Volodina, a member of the "Servant of the People" faction, on her social media page, as conveyed by Analitikaua.net.
“Another greeting to the signatory of this document, Mr. Bodnar, now from law enforcement agencies. No one has the right, firstly, to impose their subjective opinion on the entire country, secondly, to use their official position for the same purpose, and thirdly, to hold an official position while being an absolutely harmful element for the reputation of an entire state on the international stage,” she wrote.
As previously reported, Ukraine’s Deputy Foreign Minister Vasyl Bodnar sent a letter to Ukrainian officials asking them to refrain from using the term Armenian Genocide. This letter was shared by Volodina on her Facebook page. The letter stated that Ukraine does not recognize the Armenian Genocide and the diplomat requested that Ukrainian officials abstain from participating in memorial events marking the 105th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and from using that terminology.
