Assessment and Analysis Process of the Needs of the Armenian Community in Lebanon Has Begun, says Armenian Foreign Ministry

Today, starting early in the morning, the Office of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs and the High Commissioner Zareh Sinanyan personally contacted representatives of various spiritual, educational, healthcare, charitable, and media organizations within the Armenian community in Lebanon and the Armenian Ambassador Vahagn Atabekyan. They conducted a preliminary assessment of the situation and needs in Beirut.

According to information received from the community, the following primary needs are currently present: assistance with medication provision or purchase (especially for those with chronic illnesses), basic food and water supply, financial support for the renovation of housing, shops, churches, and public centers in Armenian-dense neighborhoods, facilitation and assistance with the repatriation process for those wishing to return.

Community representatives have identified psychological support as a secondary need for the community. They also emphasized that they are conducting their own needs assessment and that some time is necessary for a final analysis.

This evening, a meeting will take place with community leaders under the presidency of His Holiness Aram I of the Great House of Cilicia, during which these issues will be discussed. During a telephone conversation between Aram I and High Commissioner Zareh Sinanyan, the general situation in Lebanon and among the Armenian community was discussed, including the casualties and injuries. Efforts are currently directed towards accurately assessing the situation, which will allow for more targeted assistance.

The High Commissioner maintains ongoing communication with Aram I to work systematically. Based on the needs assessment conducted by our office, current avenues for support will be proposed.
