Prosecutor's Office Investigating Circumstances of Tree Cutting in Mashtots Park
The Prosecutor's Office of Yerevan has initiated an investigation concerning the circumstances mentioned in media reports regarding the cutting of trees. Gor Abrahamyan, an advisor to the Attorney General, revealed this information in a conversation with ‘Factinfo’.
It should be recalled that four tilia trees were cut down in Mashtots Park for the construction of a café.
Two days after the tree cutting, the ‘Greening and Environmental Protection’ Municipal Organization provided an explanation on their Facebook page regarding the ongoing work in the park:
“The owner of the café being renovated at the beginning of Mashtots Park has committed in writing to plant 9 eastern plane trees (chinar) in place of the 4 cut tilia trees. The felled trees were assessed by specialists as unhealthy and non-viable. Additionally, the operator has pledged to periodically improve and landscape the area adjacent to the park. Some of the work has already been completed, and the rest will be done after the construction work is finished. The tree planting will take place in November under the strict supervision of our specialists,” the statement read.
