Details on the Explosion Near the Tavush Police Department Building: One Arrested
The preliminary investigation continues regarding the explosion that occurred near the Tavush division's administrative building of the Armenian Police in Berd, conducted by the Tavush Regional Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee.
As a result of urgent investigative and other procedural actions, as well as operational and intelligence measures, several circumstances surrounding the incident have been established, including the identity of the presumed perpetrator: a 40-year-old resident of Berd. He has been found and arrested on suspicion of illegally acquiring, storing, and carrying military ammunition, as well as intentionally damaging property, and has been interrogated.
Previously, it was reported that on August 2, 2020, around 04:00, an unknown individual executed an explosion using an explosive device illegally kept with him in the area of the park known as “Tsaghkanots”, located behind the administrative building of the Tavush division of the RA Police. The blast resulted in damage to the walls of the police building and the windows of the offices, causing substantial property damage.
A criminal case has been initiated at the Berd Investigative Division of the Tavush Regional Investigative Department based on Article 185 (intentional destruction or damage to property) and Article 235 (illegal acquisition, sale, storage, transportation or carrying of weapons, military ammunition, explosive materials or explosive devices) of the RA Criminal Code. An investigative group has been formed, and searches have been conducted. The preliminary investigation is ongoing, and measures are being taken to ensure a comprehensive, objective, and complete examination of the incident.
