Debed River Tributary Turns Yellow-Brown Again

In the city of Alaverdi, Lori Province, the tributary of the Debed River has turned yellow-brown once again after heavy rain. This was reported by EcoLur.

On August 2, Oleg Dulgaryan, the president of the Community Consolidation and Support Center NGO, raised the issue on his Facebook page, stating: "The Debed River continues to be polluted from the waste pile next to the Aramyan's mansion and from the Nahapet's tailings dam. Another polluter is the tributary of Debed coming down from Madan, which contains old mining caverns and undergoes drainage processes. After each rain, this activity intensifies, mixing yellow waters into the Debed, saturating it with heavy metals, and directing it towards the irrigation system and agricultural lands."

He also called on all relevant authorities to pay attention to this issue: "It is necessary for communities and the government to develop clear programs, strategies, and seek resources for all abandoned tailings and mining areas..."
