Charges Filed Against Yerevan Resident for Thefts and Attempted Thefts of Thuja Trees
The Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia has revealed several circumstances surrounding the theft and attempted theft of thuja trees following extensive investigative and procedural actions by the investigation division of the Erebuni and Nubarashen administrative districts in Yerevan.
The investigation found that on March 21, 2020, at around 03:00, a 33-year-old resident of Yerevan secretly stole a significant amount of property with the intention of illegal possession. He pulled out 8 golden thuja trees, valued at a total of 120,000 AMD, from the edge of a garden near the statue of “Sasuntsi David” in Yerevan.
Additionally, a few days later at the mentioned location, the same man attempted to steal 4 more thuja trees of the same species but was noticed by police officers and could not complete the crime due to circumstances beyond his control.
Based on sufficient evidence gathered, charges have been filed against the 33-year-old resident of Yerevan under Article 177 (theft) part 1 and Article 34-177 (attempted theft) part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. A measure of restraint has been imposed on him in the form of a signature not to leave. The pre-trial investigation has been completed, and the criminal case, with an accusatory conclusion, has been sent to court.
