40-Year-Old Resident Arrested for Attempted Murder of Workers at Church Construction Site
A resident of Ararat village has been arrested on charges of attempting to murder individuals engaged in construction work at a church. This information was released by the Investigative Committee of Armenia.
Specifically, an investigation is underway at the Vedi Investigation Division of the Ararat Regional Investigation Department to clarify all circumstances surrounding the attempted murder by the Ararat village resident against those involved in church construction work.
On June 6, 2020, at 7 AM, a resident of Ararat region reported that on June 5, at approximately 7:30 PM, while construction work was being conducted at a semi-constructed church in the area of Ararat village, the resident fired 3-4 shots with a firearm towards his friends and others. However, they managed to subdue him by taking the firearm from his hands, which was later handed over to law enforcement authorities.
In connection with the incident, a criminal case has been initiated at the Vedi Investigation Division of the Ararat Regional Investigation Department under Article 34-104 (attempted murder) and Article 235 (unlawful acquisition, sale, storage, transport, or carrying of weapons, ammunition, explosive substances, or explosive devices) of the RA Criminal Code.
During the pre-trial investigation, several urgent investigative and procedural actions have been carried out, including an on-site inspection, during which two fired cartridges of 5.45mm caliber bullets and one magazine for the firearm were discovered. Several expert examinations have been ordered to clarify circumstances of significant importance to the criminal case.
As a result of the investigative actions and operational-search measures undertaken, the alleged perpetrator, a 40-year-old resident of Ararat village, was located and arrested. Charges have been brought against him for attempting to murder others in a manner dangerous to many lives and for unlawfully acquiring, storing, and carrying a weapon.
A motion has been submitted to the court requesting that imprisonment be selected as a measure of restraint, which has been granted.
