Young Man Arrested on Suspicion of Assaulting Police Officers

On June 7, 2020, several officers from the Shengavit division of the Armenian police submitted reports regarding a call they received about a body found with gunshot wounds on S. Tarontz Street in Yerevan. Upon their arrival at 00:05, while performing their duty to secure the crime scene, relatives and friends of the deceased approached them.

The individuals, refusing to comply with the officers' lawful requests, exhibited aggressive behavior. Among them was a 29-year-old relative of the deceased who, disregarding the police’s orders to leave the scene, physically assaulted three officers by inflicting non-life-threatening injuries using punches to various parts of their bodies. Following this incident, he was taken into custody.

In connection with the case, the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia's Yerevan Investigative Department has initiated criminal proceedings under part 1 of Article 316 of the Criminal Code (violence against a representative of authority), with the investigation assigned to an investigative team. The three police officers have been recognized as victims, and the crime scene has been examined. Decisions have been made to confiscate recordings from surveillance cameras at the scene, and medical examinations have been appointed. The 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting police officers.
