Bribery for Illegal Logging
The Dilijan division of the police has received information that in May, a resident of Dilijan allegedly offered a bribe of 40,000 drams to the forest warden of the 10th compartment of the "Shamakhyan" area. In return, the warden was supposed to agree to allow the resident to take firewood out of the compartment four times without the necessary documentation.
According to information from the police's press service on June 8, it was later determined that the forest warden accepted the offer, received part of the bribe at the end of May, and allowed the resident to take firewood out twice using a Ford vehicle.
On June 1, around 8 AM, the citizen removed wood for the third time, sold several cubic meters, left the remaining wood in the vehicle, and had not yet paid the promised amount when the police intervened to prevent the illegal act. The vehicle, along with the wood, was taken to a secure area of Dilijan police. The forest warden has also been summoned to the department.
The suspects have provided confessional statements. A criminal case has been initiated, and charges have been laid against them in the Dilijan investigative department. The circumstances of the case are under investigation. The preliminary investigation continues.
