What the Young Man Who Cut His Neck in Gavar Said: The Doctor Sewed His Heart with a Needle

According to the newspaper "Zhoghovurd," on April 28, 2020, around 5:00 PM, an individual (or individuals) involved in a suspected crime opened fire in a dangerous manner towards residents of the Noratus community: Vahe Avetisyan, Hrachya Hakobyan, Armen Sargsyan, Artyom Petrosyan, and Sasun Meloyan, as well as residents of Gavar: Zhorab Paronikyan, Armen Haytyan, and Vardan Davoyan. As a result of the life-threatening injuries sustained, V. Avetisyan and Z. Paronikyan died on the spot, while others were taken to the Gavar Medical Center with injuries.

Some time after the incident, a group of individuals attacked the Gavar hospital, breaking windows. The matter is that the relatives and friends of the deceased Zorik Paronikyan and Avetisyan, learning that they had died, suspected that Armen Haytyan, Davit Haytyan, and Vardan Davoyan, who were in the hospital, were responsible for the killings. They invaded the hospital with deadly weapons and attempted to kill them. Moreover, they cut the necks of the nephews of Haytyan, where police were on duty under the leadership of Police Chief Arman Sargsyan.

It should be noted that since the shooting on April 28, resulting in the deaths of two individuals, tensions have not eased, and the law enforcement agencies are concerned that the vendetta will continue. Today marks one month since this high-profile incident, and "Zhoghovurd" newspaper stated that the preliminary investigation has come to a deadlock. Specifically, according to information received by "Zhoghovurd," the preliminary investigation body has submitted motions to the court regarding a group of individuals, proposing that pre-trial detention be chosen as a precautionary measure against them, but the court has rejected the motion for many.

The reason is that the preliminary investigation body cannot find adequate justifications regarding who specifically first invaded the hospital and what actions were taken by whom. On that occasion, they even took the hospital's surveillance cameras, and investigations are underway to understand the circle of those individuals, and steps are being taken to find many of them.

At this point, a total of 28 individuals are involved as defendants in the criminal case, 25 of whom participated in mass riots at the Gavar Medical Center and made calls during them. One individual is charged with attempted murder at the same center, while two individuals are charged with the dangerous manner of attempted murder of two or more persons on Gavar’s Azatutyun Street, as well as illegal possession, carrying, and keeping of firearms.

So, what is the condition of the young men who cut their necks, why are they not reporting their whereabouts, and what have they told about the incident? Regarding this topic, ArmLur.am spoke with lawyer Arman Tamrazyan, who presented what happened that day, how Davit Haytyan’s neck and heart were pierced, and how the doctor sewed his heart with a needle. "As a lawyer, I participated in his interrogation and submitted a motion for him to be recognized as a victim; the investigative body postponed the resolution of the motion without any basis. Davit Haytyan had no connection to the incident of the shots; it has been confirmed by testimonies that he was at his animal farm at that time. His cousin Armen called him and said, ‘come quickly to the hospital,’ so he left his work, got into the car in his barn clothes, and came to the hospital. He arrived and saw that people were gathered near the hospital, and he entered to see his cousin. He met him near the elevator on the first floor.
