Suspect in the Murder of 40-Year-Old Man in Abovyan Cemetery is 68-Year-Old Local Resident
On May 26, in the context of the criminal case initiated under Article 104, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia by the Investigative Committee's Abovyan Division in the Kotayk Province, a 68-year-old resident of the Saralanj neighborhood of Abovyan, Vardevan Arzumanyan, was arrested as a suspect. He is suspected of arguing with 40-year-old Ara Poghosyan and killing him in front of the church adjacent to the Abovyan cemetery on May 24.
According to the source, operational investigative groups were established to locate the suspect, with the head of the Kotayk Provincial Police, Sevan Kocharyan, the head of the Abovyan Police Department, Andranik Meloyan, and the head of the Abovyan Division of the Kotayk Provincial Investigative Department, Garnik Matevosyan, appointed as leaders.
Police and investigators conducted checks at more than ten addresses to find the suspect, as the information about his location was conflicting. Eventually, after some time, police officers and investigators in Kotayk Province, cooperating with their colleagues from the Criminal Police Department, located V. Arzumanyan.
Earlier, it was reported that on May 25, around 12:30 PM, a call was received at the Kotayk Police Department regarding a body near the church adjacent to the Saralanj Cemetery in Abovyan. Police and investigators found the body of 40-year-old Ara Poghosyan lying on his back near the entrance door of the church adjacent to the cemetery.
A forensic doctor, upon examining the body on the scene, reported that the deceased had sustained multiple injuries to the head.
