97.3% of Criminal Cases on Homicides, Attempts and Missing Persons Recorded in 2020 Have Been Solved

Head of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia, Hayk Grigoryan, held a working consultation with the leadership of the Investigative Committee and heads of structural units. This information was reported by the information and public relations department of the RA IC.

According to the agenda, reports were provided on the criminal cases opened for homicides and attempted homicides during 2019, as well as on the cases of murder, attempted murder, preparations for murder, and missing persons examined from January 1 to May 24, 2020.

According to a study on the status of preliminary investigations into homicide and attempted homicide cases conducted by the Special Assignments, Organizational-Analytical and Forensic Main Department of the RA Investigative Committee, a total of 134 criminal cases related to homicides and attempts have been examined (including by the Main Department of Military Investigations). Of these, 39 cases involving 49 individuals have been sent to court, 12 cases were closed, 22 cases are suspended, and 61 criminal cases are still under preliminary investigation. Among these, 32 cases were transferred from the years 2018-2019.

During 2019, the territorial divisions of the Investigative Committee (excluding the Main Department of Military Investigations) opened 72 criminal cases related to homicides and attempted homicides, with 24 cases in the investigative departments of the administrative districts of Yerevan and 48 cases in regional investigative departments.

According to the analysis conducted by the Main Department for Supervising the Activities of the Territorial Investigative Departments, from January 1 to May 24, 2020, 45 criminal cases have been opened and accepted for proceedings concerning homicides, attempted murders, preparations for murder, and missing persons in the non-military investigative departments (excluding cases under the jurisdiction of the Main Department of Military Investigations). Out of these 45 cases, 4 were in the jurisdiction of the Main Department for Investigating Particularly Important Cases, 10 were under the Yerevan investigative department and its subdivisions, and 31 cases were in the regional investigative departments.

Of the 45 criminal cases mentioned, 8 were opened regarding acts based on national, racial, or religious motives committed by unknown individuals from the combat positions of opposing armed forces. As a result of extensive investigative and procedural actions undertaken in 37 of the criminal cases, 36 cases or 97.3% have been solved.

Summing up the consultation, Hayk Grigoryan issued relevant instructions, emphasizing the work directions that require maximum attention.
