Possible Liberation of Several Areas Around Nagorno-Karabakh and Unblocking of Communications, Lavrov Says
Discussions on the decisions proposed during last year's meeting of the foreign ministers of Russia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia in Moscow regarding the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict are actively ongoing. Their signing would be an important step towards the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov today, April 21.
"There are the Madrid principles, and there are documents prepared by the Russian Federation in 2010-2011, known as the Kazan document. There are projects that were circulated during last April's meeting in Moscow involving the foreign ministers of Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan, and these are now being actively discussed," Lavrov said, adding that these documents are aimed at achieving a settlement based on a phased approach, the first phase of which would involve the resolution of more urgent issues, the liberation of several areas around Nagorno-Karabakh, and the unblocking of transport, economic, and other communications."
