The resolution passed by the People’s Assembly of the Syrian Arab Republic recognizing and condemning the Armenian Genocide is a vivid testament to the centuries-old friendship and mutual sympathy between the Armenian and Syrian peoples. It is a significant contribution to the restoration of historical justice and the prevention of genocides, as stated in the announcement released by the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the resolution of the Syrian Parliament on recognizing and condemning the Armenian Genocide.
“We highly appreciate the adoption of the resolution by the People’s Assembly of the Syrian Arab Republic recognizing and condemning the genocide of the Armenian people perpetrated by the Ottoman Empire. The genocide unleashed by the Young Turk government, a substantial part of which was carried out in the territory of Syria then under the control of the Ottoman Empire, is part of the common historical memory of the Armenian and Syrian peoples. The Syrian people, being witnesses to the atrocities against the Armenian people, were among the first to extend a helping hand to the victims of genocide. Thousands of survivors found their new homeland in Syria, forming one of the most vibrant Armenian communities and contributing to the development of Syria,” the statement reads.
