Compensation for Soviet Union Savings Bank Deposits to Be Granted to Those Born in 1935-1936
The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Zaruhi Batoyan, presented a project to the government that aims to continue providing compensation for monetary deposits made in the former USSR Savings Bank’s Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic bank until June 10, 1993. This compensation will extend to individuals born on or before December 31, 1936, as well as participants in the Armenian protection forces’ military operations or those affected by enemy shelling in border communities, registered as of August 1, 2014, as well as other social groups defined by the government.
This issue was also raised the previous day during a Q&A session with the government in the National Assembly. The government adopted the project unanimously.
"Individuals affected by military operations for the protection of Armenia, or those in border communities impacted by enemy shelling and registered as of August 1, 2014, have the right to compensation. However, current regulations prevent those conscripted for mandatory military service from realizing this right due to their removal from the state population registry. Thus, the project proposes including provisions for these individuals to have the right to access the deposits," Batoyan stated. Funding of 1.2 billion drams has been allocated for this program.
The project also suggests granting the right to receive deposits to persons born in 1935 and 1936, as well as to those conscripted from those communities who were serving in mandatory military service as of August 1, 2014.
