Republic Party Joins Yes Campaign

The statement from the Republic Party: In light of the necessity to resolve the current situation, where the executive and legislative powers have changed as a result of legitimate elections, while there is total distrust towards the judicial power and the Constitutional Court is perceived as the highest body of that power, regarded widely as a servant of the former authorities, the situation has no civilized alternative for resolution other than a referendum. The Republic Party joins the Yes campaign.

At the same time, the Republic Party reminds that immediately after the extraordinary parliamentary elections, they proposed to elect a new Constitutional Court, substantiating the need for systemic changes, which remained unanswered.

The Republic Party was initially opposed to and has actively supported the No side regarding the constitutional amendments of 2015 and the parliamentary governance model. We believe that the primary, unchangeable model that allows for swift decision-making in Armenia can only be a system that ensures a fully presidential governance. We are convinced that the 2015 Constitution is flawed, filled with major and minor contradictions, and should be completely changed sooner or later.
