New Bill Introduced in Parliament Following 'Kamazgate' Controversy

A new bill has been presented for discussion in the National Assembly, which mandates that if a community receives gifts valued over 100,000 drams, the community leader must ensure transparency regarding those gifts.

According to the bill, the community leader must disclose this information either by publishing it on the community's website or by posting it on the wall of the cooperative.

Sona Ghazaryan, the lawmaker presenting the bill, explained that the idea for this legislation arose from discussions surrounding the controversy over the 'Kamaz' trucks gifted to Yerevan. It is worth noting that the municipality had withheld information about these gifts for months.

When asked what would happen if a community leader fails to comply, Ghazaryan stated that in such a case, the leader would face political accountability and would be denounced.

The lawmaker also concurred that the option of imposing fines on community leaders could also be considered.
