Why Are You Sending a Question to a Referendum Instead of Resolving It in Parliament with 88 Deputies? Marukyan
The leader of the "Enlightened Armenia" faction, Edmond Marukyan, questioned fellow parliamentary deputy Vahagn Hakobyan from the "My Step" faction about why they are not carrying out the draft law on the removal of the President of the Constitutional Court from office in the National Assembly with 88 deputies, but are instead sending it to a referendum.
"You are sending millions of citizens to polling stations, thus putting the country into electoral processes. Why are you doing this?" Marukyan asked.
In response, Vahagn Hakobyan noted that the public does not trust the Constitutional Court (CC). "The people exercise their rights through elections and referendums. Since the issue is related to the CC, the CC cannot be the body for the realization of the people's rights. The CC is fundamentally engaged in obstructing reforms," Hakobyan stated.
