The State Food Safety Inspectorate Conducts Inspection at Zeytun Sweet LLC
In recent days, there have been reports of residents in various communities of two provinces in Armenia, Lori and Syunik (Stepanavan, Vanadzor, Kapan, and adjacent communities to Sisian), experiencing cases of food poisoning. During the period from January 27 to February 3, 60 citizens sought medical assistance in healthcare facilities in regional centers with a diagnosis of food poisoning. Most of the affected individuals have already been discharged.
Immediately after receiving the alarm from the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Armenian Ministry of Health, specialists from the regional departments of the State Food Safety Inspectorate initiated oversight operations. Specifically, through discussions with individuals who had been hospitalized, it was discovered that symptoms of poisoning had appeared in all cases after consuming éclairs. Tracing back, it was determined that all had eaten the éclairs produced by Zeytun Sweet LLC.
Measures have been taken to locate the product within the distribution network. Inspectors from the Yerevan central office of the Inspectorate also conducted an inspection at Zeytun Sweet LLC's production facility. No violations of sanitary-hygienic standards were recorded; however, it was found that the product "Éclair Glaze" had not undergone conformity assessment and lacked a safety declaration. Zeytun Sweet LLC was issued an order to "prohibit the sale of the product, withdraw it from the market, destroy it, or dispose of it," and a deadline was set for rectifying the deficiency.
Samples were also taken from the existing raw materials such as eggs, butter, and spread, as well as from the finished product—glazed éclairs. The results of the laboratory tests will be published as soon as they are available.
