People: A 200-Year-Old Building is Being Demolished for Hotel Construction
According to the "People" newspaper, the construction works at 54 Leo Street in Yerevan are leading to the demolition of a 200-year-old building, which is included in the list of protected monuments. The former building of the Hydromet service located at this address is set to be transformed into a hotel.
Currently, construction work is underway, and an extra floor is being added. According to the Yerevan Municipality, the company "KAM Developments" obtained permission to carry out the construction at 54 Leo Street last August from Mayor Hayk Marutyan.
It is noteworthy that this building was sold right after the revolution in May 2018; it is presumed that the authors of this transaction took advantage of the chaotic situation in the country. According to some sources, a hotel is being constructed in this area by Arman Sahakyan, the son of the former head of the State Property Management Committee, Galust Sahakyan.
Of course, the "People" newspaper attempted to confirm this information with Arman Sahakyan, but he did not respond to our phone calls throughout the day.
However, that’s not all. It turns out that due to the ongoing construction works, a neighboring building is collapsing. The developer company "Ar Art" continues its excavation works. You can watch a video about this on ArmLur.am today.
