National Assembly Rejects Draft to Terminate the Terms of the Constitutional Court President and Members

The draft constitutional amendments aimed at terminating the terms of the President of the Constitutional Court, Hrayr Tovmasyan, and the Court's members was not accepted in the National Assembly during the first reading. The draft was rejected with 36 votes against and 87 abstentions.
Prior to the voting, Vice Speaker of the National Assembly Alen Simonian announced that the ‘My Step’ faction would abstain from voting on the draft. “The solution to the crisis surrounding the Constitutional Court should be achieved through a referendum. This time, the ‘My Step’ faction will abstain,” Simonian stated.
