National Assembly Approves Decision to Put Constitutional Amendments to Referendum
The National Assembly has just approved the question of putting the draft amendments to the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia to a referendum.
“According to the third part of Article 202 of the Constitution: if the draft constitutional amendments are not approved by the National Assembly, it can be put to a referendum with the approval of at least 3/5 of the total number of votes of the deputies, and I ask the President of the National Assembly to allow the presentation of the draft decision on submitting the draft amendments to the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia to a referendum by the initiator,” expressed one of the deputies.
The Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) did not participate in the voting. The Bright Armenia Party (LHK) voted against, while Lilit Makunts, the head of the My Step faction, stated that democracy and sovereignty have no alternative in Armenia. The decision was adopted with 88 votes in favor, 15 against, and 0 abstentions.
