Court of Appeals Rejects Narik Sargsyan's Defense Appeal Against Detention

The Court of Appeals, presided over by Judge Armen Bekhtashyan, has rejected the appeal filed by Narik Sargsyan's defense against the decision to detain him. This was reported to 'Factinfo' by Narik Sargsyan's lawyer, Arthur Pivazyan, who noted that they have not yet reviewed the Court of Appeals' decision.

When asked if they plan to appeal the Court's ruling, Pivazyan stated, 'Of course, but before we file an appeal, we need to receive the decision and understand the conclusions the court has drawn regarding our arguments and what justifications have been provided.'

Pivazyan also mentioned that Narik Sargsyan has certain health issues, but did not provide further details at this time.

It is worth recalling that on June 26, 2018, the National Security Service of Armenia initiated a criminal case for acquiring, trading, or possessing weapons, military ammunition, explosives, or explosive devices illegally, as well as the illegal circulation of narcotic substances and psychotropic materials.

A search warrant was issued for Narik Sargsyan on July 6, followed by an Interpol Red Notice on July 24. Various police units and the Interpol national central bureau in Armenia collaborated with law enforcement agencies in several European countries. As a result of extensive operational and investigative measures, Narik Alexandri Sargsyan, who was internationally wanted by Armenian law enforcement, was located in Prague on December 6, 2018, under the name Franklin Gonzalez.

He was extradited to Armenia one year later, on December 21, 2019, and on December 23, the investigator presented a motion to the court to reaffirm the detention of Narik Sargsyan, which the court satisfied with a decision on December 24.

Narik Sargsyan is currently held at 'Yerevan-Center' Penitentiary. The preliminary investigation of the criminal case is ongoing.
