Video: Cases of Obtaining Deferred Military Service and Early Discharge Using Fake Documents Revealed

The National Security Service of the Republic has revealed a case of receiving a particularly large bribe during operational-investigative measures and investigative actions undertaken within the framework of its legal functions aimed at supporting the military command in maintaining the combat readiness and combat preparedness of the Armed Forces, as well as combating corruption.

Specifically, factual data has been obtained indicating that a senior neurologist of the neurological department of the number 2 neurological medical unit, in collusion with an acquaintance, was involved in a commission established for the medical examination, expert assessment, and treatment of conscripts in 2019. In exchange for a bribe, he reached a preliminary agreement with the mentioned acquaintance to falsify medical documents and provide deferred military service for conscripts based on those documents. With the assistance of this acquaintance, during November-December 2019, he received a particularly large bribe totaling 8,500 US dollars from the relatives of 4 conscripts.

Factual data has also been acquired indicating that the aforementioned acquaintance, similarly to the above-mentioned case, acted as a mediator for obtaining deferrals from mandatory military service for other conscripts, and for the purpose of early discharge of soldiers from military service, received a total of 45,000 US dollars throughout 2019 from the relatives of these individuals in bribes to the relevant authorities.

Following this incident, a criminal case has been initiated in the investigative department of the NSS of the Republic under the relevant articles of the RA Criminal Code. Under the presence of irrefutable evidence, the mentioned official who received the bribe has confessed to the crime committed. An investigation is underway, and measures are being taken to clarify all criminal cases and the circle of individuals involved in the corruption chain and hold them accountable.
