Gagik Khachatryan Faces Serious Health Issues: Lawyers' Statement
The trial to hear the appeal by the defense team against the court's decision to extend the detention of former Armenian Minister of Finance and former head of the State Revenue Committee, Gagik Khachatryan, will take place today, February 3. The session will be presided over by Judge Sergey Marabyan of the Court of Appeals, known for being one of the highest-rated judges on the Helpcourt platform.
Notably, the hearing against the court's decision to extend Khachatryan's detention comes amid numerous alarms regarding the deterioration of his health condition. Gagik Khachatryan has been in detention for seven months, with information regarding medical assistance, urgent examinations, and hospitalization having been reported in the media at least three times.
According to the defense team, Khachatryan is receiving symptomatic treatment while in custody, whereas he requires specialized care, and the absence of medical assistance could lead to irreversible consequences.
It is worth recalling that prior to his detention, Gagik Khachatryan was in Germany and returned to Yerevan upon the very first phone call from the investigator, making no attempts to hide from the investigation. He was receiving post-operative treatment in Germany for issues related to his spine and musculoskeletal system, and he has an implant in his body.
