Criminal Proceedings Against Khachaturyan Sisters May Be Terminated: Details
The Russian Prosecutor General's Office has instructed the Investigative Committee to reclassify the charges against the Khachaturyan sisters from murder to necessary self-defense. This was reported by lawyer Alexei Parshin, according to TASS agency.
Parshin noted that Deputy Prosecutor General Viktor Grin has refused to confirm the indictment. "The investigation, while recognizing the fact that the Khachaturyan sisters were subjected to life-threatening, regular violence by their father, did not take into account the impact of the father’s attacks on the ultimate goal of the sisters’ actions," he stated.
The lawyer added that the Khachaturyan sisters responded to their father's attacks, which posed a threat to their lives and health. He also emphasized that the girls' actions should be evaluated as self-defense, which implies the cessation of criminal prosecution.
