Two Arrested on Suspicion of Violence Against Police Officers

The Investigative Committee of Armenia has initiated a criminal case regarding an incident of violence against police officers. Two individuals have been arrested.

According to reports from officers of the Sisian Division of the Police, on January 19, 2020, around 22:30, while on duty, two individuals failed to comply with the lawful demands of police officers and engaged in an unfounded dispute, during which they also resorted to violence against the officers.

A criminal case has been initiated under Part 1 of Article 316 of the Armenian Criminal Code at the Sisian Investigative Division of the Investigative Committee of Syunik Province.

Through coordinated efforts involving the Investigative Committee's personnel and officers from the Sisian police department, several circumstances surrounding the incident have been clarified, including the identities of the individuals suspected of using violence against the police, who are residents of the city of Sisian, born in 1987 and 1982.

According to the data obtained during the investigation, at around 22:30 on January 19, 2020, the mentioned individuals encountered police officers who were on duty in Sisian city and were given a warning. In response, the officers requested relevant documents. However, the individuals did not comply with the lawful demands of the police officer, instead engaging in a dispute during which they applied non-life-threatening violence against two police officers, specifically by pulling them, tearing off their epaulettes, and striking them.

Through investigative measures and operational intelligence activities, the individuals suspected of committing the alleged crime have been identified and presented to the prosecuting authority. They have been arrested on suspicion of violence against police officers.

During the preliminary investigation, examinations of the crime scene and clothing, interrogations, and confrontations have been conducted. A forensic medical examination has been ordered to clarify significant circumstances of the criminal case. Instructions have been given to the Sisian division of the police.
