«Joghovourd». The SRS Has Entered Law Firms and Is Conducting Inspections
«Joghovourd» newspaper reports. According to the newspaper’s information, the State Revenue Committee has entered law firms in Armenia and is inspecting the activities of lawyers, trying to determine what work they have done, what cases they have examined, whose interests they have protected, and how much money they have received for these services.
The newspaper attempted to clarify details regarding this information from the President of the Chamber of Advocates, Ara Zohrabyan. “In our country, legal activities are generally considered entrepreneurial activities. As a result of legal activities, taxes are formed, which must be calculated and paid to the state. If the State Revenue Committee is conducting a general tax oversight process, that is normal. It would not be normal if we noted directed oversight of specific lawyers related to their professional activities,” he said.
According to him, if a lawyer receives money and does not pay taxes, obviously, the tax authority cannot ignore this fact. “We have not received any notifications from the SRS regarding inspections of any lawyers or law firms for the years 2018-2019. If such cases existed, then the Chamber of Advocates would be very interested in those cases,” he added.
