Streets of Venice Flooded Again Ahead of Christmas Holidays

On December 23, the water level in Venice rose by 144 centimeters above normal, according to reports from Italian media. As a result, most streets have been covered in water, forcing tourists and residents to walk along raised walkways.

The flooding was not as severe as anticipated, with experts predicting a rise of up to 150 centimeters. Last month, Venice experienced a significant flood. On November 12, the water level exceeded normal levels by 187 centimeters, prompting a state of emergency in the city. The natural disaster claimed the lives of two people.

In Italy, the floods in Venice are commonly referred to as "high water." The term is used when the level rises more than 110 centimeters above the zero point, located in the Punta della Salute area of Venice, as reported by Interfax.
