VIDEO: Illegal Logging Cases Discovered in Gugark

In order to detect and prevent environmental violations, the officers of the Gugark division of the police checked and brought in a vehicle driven by a 26-year-old resident of Yeghenut village along the Spitak-Vanadzor road. The vehicle, a "ZIL" model, was loaded with approximately 8 cubic meters of timber. The driver did not present any documents and stated that the wood was obtained by cutting trees from the forest in their village.

Hours later, during a joint operation involving the officers of the Lori regional police department and the Gugark division, a "Ford Transit" vehicle driven by a 51-year-old man from Vanadzor was checked in the administrative territory of Vahagnadzor village, which was loaded with about 4 cubic meters of timber. Again, no documents were presented. The driver reported that the previous evening he had collected dry wood from the forest in Vahagnadzor village and cut down one mature tree using a chainsaw.

The vehicle loaded with timber has been transferred to a secure area of the police department. Investigations are ongoing. In both cases, a professional examination has been appointed, and materials are being prepared.
