Urgent: Video Shows Police foraging Testimonies from Citizens with Tear Gas and Batons

NewsMedia has released a video indicating that police are coercing testimonies from citizens using tear gas and batons.

Auroranews tried to clarify with Ashot Aharonyan, head of the Police Department's Public Relations and Media Department, whether the events shown in the video actually took place in Armenia and what steps are being planned in response.

"Following the directive of Acting Police Chief Arman Sargsyan, an internal security inspection is being conducted," said Aharonyan.

It is worth recalling that yesterday the government approved a legislative initiative regarding amendments to the law on the Police of the Republic of Armenia. The aim of the project is to establish legal grounds for installing technical means for video recording at the entrances and exits of police buildings, as well as in police subdivisions designed for interrogations and operational inquiries to prevent or uncover torture.
