The Remains of Apostle Peter Rest in One of the Vatican's Crypts
Former Armenian Ambassador to the Holy See, Mikael Minasian, made a Facebook post that we present below.
“The Savior is the window of time. Now the blind are led by the insane.” - Shakespeare, “King Lear”
He emerged in the spring of 2018 when the global trend of protest spread rapidly across the country. He led a movement of protest and hate. And he won. He became the number one Facebook user, YouTuber, and virtual leader of the country, who single-handedly saved Armenians from injustice, poverty, unemployment, war, and Sasik.
He was a rather ordinary politician, doing what he had done throughout his life: seizing a political opportunity to grapple for something. By the middle of events, independently, the users (not the citizens) changed his status—turning him from a walking MP into a newfound messiah. Moreover, it should be noted that the entire coronation process was organized by just a part of the society—the most active and the loudest.
The larger mass of society, which later did not go to the elections, did not participate in political events, is still in a role of an observer. During that time, the new status became acceptable and understandable—first and foremost for him. He immediately entered the role, quickly forgot his duties and responsibilities as a politician, accepted the crown, and decided to save us from evil.
He realized that it was easier and more convenient. Political struggle requires politicians to follow the rules of the game, laws, have a plan of action, clear strategy, and deeply conscious collective and individual responsibility. However, the people expect something else from a Messiah. They expect salvation from predecessors. This desire was so great, simple, and even dubious that it was first tested during the Yerevan city council elections. In that election, there was only one point in the 'social media contract' with society—'I come to save you from the predecessors.' And a miracle happened. Even with that single point, without a program and a semi-actor mayoral candidate, the formula worked. The people agreed.
The same was repeated in the parliamentary elections, promising the people just one thing: salvation. That there would be no predecessors. And again, the formula worked.
He de facto and de jure declared himself a Messiah. The Armenian people made no demands on him; they asked for no program or indicators. The only expectation of the Messiah was to save the country from predecessors, which he did. In other words, just one month after the elections, the Messiah fulfilled all his promises in the election campaign. That was the basis of the contract. There was no other obligation.
After that, the Messiah fully entered into his role, which, according to the genre's rules, has a clear logic:
- The Savior does not govern; he reigns and rules from the throne. He has saved the country and is worthy of the best.
- Very quickly, the infrastructure for canonization began to be constructed—Messiah's poems, books, presentations about him, and statues immortalizing him.
- The Savior never lies; he conveys prophecies. And no prophet has ever brought any proof. The prophet's word is an axiomatic truth. Doubting it is sinful.
- One must not criticize the Messiah. That is sinful and should be punished. Therefore, today all his critics are in the crosshairs of his 'cyber army' and law enforcement. And quite justly.
- The Savior himself must live well. He should cross oceans in expensive cars, renovate his mansion luxuriously, and be surrounded by hundreds of bodyguards, often traveling, because he is worthy. Do not forget what he saved us from.
- The Savior is obliged to punish and forgive (remember that SATF employee who, after humiliation due to the flag, was dismissed and then incomprehensibly forgiven and taken back).
- When the guilty accept the Savior, their sins are nullified. However, when they turn their faces away, the sins return manifold (don't go far—Arthur Vanetsyan).
- The Savior's allies are his apostles—they spread his light throughout the country, conveying small truths. After all, they have interacted with the Savior. They too are impeccable and infallible, and if one of them makes an obvious mistake, the Savior comes to help (the example of Minister Arayik Harutyunyan is proof).
- The Savior can eliminate social strata and change people. He eliminated the oligarchs. Oligarchy no longer exists in Armenia. And those who were former oligarchs, if they accept the light, faith, and sword, then have a chance to become entrepreneurs of the 'New Armenia', like the transformed Samvel Aleksanyan.
- The Savior does what he wants. The apostle of justice can also be an apostle of hate. Many are talking about this now—hate speech or a tense atmosphere. But that does not concern the savior. According to the Bible, for justice, one is entitled to commit sins, for it is not sin.
- Restoring justice was the demand of the spring of 2018; at its core was the liberation of the homeland from the predecessors. The Armenian people, in their subconscious, had accumulated all their issues within the demand for justice and the removal of the former authorities. It was so personalized that everyone believed if the predecessors were eliminated, all of society's burdens would disappear, and every social problem would be solved.
- And now, a year and a half later, suddenly part of the people has discovered that the predecessors are gone, but the fundamental issues remain, and social problems are increasing. Therefore, they have begun to express discontent, demanding solutions to certain issues. But the addressee of these issues is not the Messiah. He is a Savior, while the resolution of issues requires a manager. As I noted, the Messiah has entirely different functions.
But this is not the greatest tragedy; rather, it is that many, disillusioned by the Messiah, have begun searching for a new savior. Again—not a manager, but a savior. And if the current Messiah at least came from real life, the new one will be entirely a product of 'social networks'. From where the majority of Armenians and the diaspora currently reside. And again, a new Messiah will appear—this time even worse than the previous one.
This will continue until we all understand a simple truth: no matter how emotional we are, we will not have a good country as long as we wait or choose saviors. Because it is not saviors who build countries, establish institutions, and operate mechanisms. They are a destructive force, leveling everything and everyone to the ground. When we cease our emotional and virtual choices and are able to assess our country, its capabilities, and chances adequately, we will understand that the state needs a manager. A person who can be accountable for his words, actions, decisions, and the country.
Until then, the tragicomedy of 'and let us be saved from evil' will continue.
PS: The remains of the Apostle Peter rest in one of the Vatican's crypts. St. Peter's tomb is a pilgrimage site where believers pray, humbly hoping for divine miracles. It is advisable to self-purify and repent before going there. Those with a 'downfall' worldview are not allowed in.
