Surik Khachatryan to Be Detained

The former governor of Syunik, Surik Khachatryan, will be detained as part of a criminal case against him. The court has decided to take him into custody, according to a statement from the Special Investigative Service.

“Based on sufficient evidence collected during the criminal investigation at the RA Special Investigative Service, Surik Khachatryan has been involved as a defendant in the case,” the statement reads.

He is charged under Part 1 of Article 309 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia (abuse of official authority), Point 1 of Part 3 of Article 179 (embezzlement or waste), and Part 1 of Article 314 (official forgery).
