We Must Help Them Spread Their Wings and Fly: Hayk Marutyan

The Mayor of Yerevan, Hayk Marutyan, wrote on his Facebook page: “Today marks the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Dear friends, childhood is the most important period of our lives. It is the foundation upon which our entire future is built—the development of our worldview, our values, and our perceptions of beauty, goodness, and what is important.

Today we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, a document that has played an incredibly important role in the field of children's rights protection over the past decades. However, the changing world continues to present new challenges to our children, and confronting these challenges must be our daily work and ultimate goal.

The Yerevan community is committed to creating the best possible conditions for the children living in our city. A significant portion of our programs is dedicated to improving the quality of preschool education, enhancing the conditions in community schools for arts and sports, and making playgrounds more suitable and safe for children.

It is the top priority for all of us, especially for public decision-makers, to create a safer, cleaner, and more secure environment for every subsequent generation. We must provide children with as rich and interesting a palette as possible to create the colors of their own lives; we must help them spread their wings and fly in pursuit of their dreams.
