Fact: The Issue is Raised to Present Russian TV Channels as Disinformation Distributors

«Fact» newspaper writes: As it appears, the broadcasting of Russian television channels in Armenia continues to cause unrest among certain forces. The topic of Russian television companies being included in the Armenian multiplex has repeatedly raised concerns from Western partners, primarily the US embassy.

As a result of the newspaper's investigation, it has become clear that the issue of Russian television companies is of such interest to the Western sector that a specific order has been given to the NGO "Information Citizens’ Union" to conduct a study on media consumption and the level of disinformation in Armenia.

According to the survey results, television is the primary source of information for 35.7% of the population across all provinces and in Yerevan. According to the survey results, 6.1% and 5.1% of respondents prefer the Russian RTR and "First Channel" television companies, respectively.

This figure in itself is not surprising; however, according to information from the «Fact» newspaper, there is a plan to present Russian television channels to the public as sources of 'untrustworthiness' and 'disinformation'. Reports indicate that the issue of Russian channels is currently on the agenda of the Armenian authorities, but the paths to 'resolve' the issue have yet to be found that would satisfy both Western partners and the Russians.

Further details can be found in today’s issue of the newspaper.
