Corruption Cannot Be Eradicated as Long as There Are Willing Bribers
The National Assembly has begun discussions on the appointment of members of the first composition of the Anti-Corruption Commission. As is known, the right to nominate candidates for these positions belongs to the Government, the National Assembly factions of 'My Step,' 'Prosperous Armenia,' and 'Enlightened Armenia,' as well as the Supreme Judicial Council.
The first topic discussed was the selection of a government candidate. The executive has nominated Lilit Aleksanyan, who has made a speech outlining her vision and discussing her work experience in the financial system. She mentioned that this experience would help her work in the specified field.
She presented that during her professional activities, she has been involved in and currently heads a department of a financial institution that has a special function: to study the property and income declarations of senior state officials and assess their compliance with anti-corruption requirements.
“It is necessary to instill the awareness that corruption has two sides. One side creates the need for it, while the other makes it a reality. Therefore, systemic approaches should encompass both the public and private sectors. Corruption cannot be eradicated as long as there are willing bribers,” she stated.
