The Ministry of Emergency Situations Releases New Video on Fire Recovery Efforts at the National Assembly

On November 9, at 15:11, the "911" emergency service received a call reporting a fire at one of the houses on Demirchyan Dead End in Yerevan. Emergency units from the Fire and Rescue Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) in Yerevan dispatched two fire-fighting teams, along with response teams from the Crisis Management National Center and a psychologist from the Psychological Support Division, as well as an on-duty doctor from the Disaster Medicine Center.

At 15:22, the fire was categorized at complexity level “1-Bis,” prompting the dispatch of two more fire units. With the fire progressing, at complexity level “2,” an additional two fire units were sent, and ultimately, four fire units responded to a complexity level “3” call, followed by another five units. In total, 15 fire units and two aerial platforms were involved in the firefighting efforts.

It was determined that the fire had erupted on the roof of a building within the administrative premises of the National Assembly. The Minister of Emergency Situations, F. Tsolakyan, was on site and oversaw the firefighting operations. The fire was contained by 17:18 and was fully extinguished by 18:20. Affected areas included 1,000 square meters of the roof area (out of 3,000 sq m) and an adjacent two-story wooden house (56 sq m), which was completely destroyed.

A resident of the two-story wooden house, Ikka Ronkainen (born in 1949), sustained burns of varying degrees and was hospitalized at the National Burn Center, where doctors assessed his condition as stable but severe. Psychological support was provided to Isabella Ronkainen (born in 1961) by a specialist from the Psychological Support Division. Ongoing monitoring has been established at the site.
