Director of Yerevan Sailing Club Suspected of Embezzling 50 Million Dram Allocated for Disadvantaged Families

According to SHAMSHYAN.com, materials are being prepared in the Sevan division of the police regarding the embezzlement or waste of particularly large sums.

As reported by photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, on October 30, officers from the criminal investigation and community policing divisions of the Sevan police received operational information that Mher Tovmasyan, the director of the 'Yerevan Sailing Club' public organization located near the 'Harsnakar' restaurant complex on the Yerevan-Sevan-Dilijan highway, had appointed his wife, Larisa T., who is the deputy director of Yerevan's School No. 20 named after John Keryakosyan, as an assistant in the club.

He also hired his daughter, Marianna T., but according to police operational information, neither of them attended work, while their salaries were embezzled in their names.

The Sevan police have also received information that the mentioned club received 50 million dram annually from the state, for which the center was supposed to organize free 7-10 day sailing courses for the schoolchildren from disadvantaged families. However, the participants were not children from disadvantaged families, but rather well-off ones, whose fees were embezzled.

It has also been revealed that from 2016 to 2018, a 62-year-old man named Samvel P. was appointed as a driver at the club, who did not show up for work, and M. Tovmasyan is suspected of embezzling his salary. From S. Poghosyan's salary, 3500 dram was withheld monthly under the pretext of expenses for the vehicle he was supposedly driving.
