Professor Armen Sagatelyan Passes Away
At the age of sixty-six, Professor Armen Sagatelyan, founder and director of the Center for Ecological and Geological Research at the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, has passed away after a serious illness.
According to the information provided by the Information and Analytical Service of the National Academy of Sciences, Armen Sagatelyan has been awarded the IV degree Georgievsky Medal of the International Academic Rating of ‘Honor, Glory, Labor’ (Ukraine, 2004), the title of ‘Leading Scientist in the World – 2009’ by the International Biographical Center of Cambridge (UK), and the ‘Anania Shiraz’ State Medal of the Republic of Armenia (2013) for his contributions to science and public activity.
He is the author and co-author of over 180 scientific publications, including 4 monographs and 6 educational, scientific-methodological manuals. He has also been the chief editor of 9 collections of scientific works and proceedings, as well as two publications of the ‘Ecological Explanatory Dictionary’ in Armenian.
Since 1993, Armen Sagatelyan has led the Center for Ecological and Geological Research of the National Academy of Sciences, which conducts applied and fundamental research in the field of ecology and environmental protection.
“The National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, the Center for Ecological and Geological Research, and the scientific community mourn the untimely death of this eminent scientist and extend their condolences to Sagatelyan’s family and colleagues,” the statement said.
