Claiming that their baby was sold is simply foolish: Clarification regarding the controversial case

Claiming that their baby was sold is simply foolish, primarily due to the fact that the fetus was stillborn and already autopsied. This statement was issued by the Republican Institute of Perinatology, Obstetrics, and Gynecology.

Here is the full clarification:

“In light of the recent media releases regarding the stillborn fetus case at the Republican Institute of Reproductive Health, Perinatology, Obstetrics, and Gynecology, we find it necessary to present the following clarifications:

The child of Haykush Khachatryan was born on September 24, 2019, at 22:20, already deceased. The parents were informed about the passing of the fetus by the attending physician around 18:00 after an ultrasound examination. Additionally, there are other records proving this fact, including the physician’s examination notes, as well as the obstetrician's report concerning the cause of intrauterine death.

Claiming that their baby was sold is simply foolish considering that the fetus was stillborn and already autopsied. Furthermore, the baby's aunt, Hermine Khachatryan, saw the body of the fetus after delivery.

The autopsy and examination of the deceased fetus in Armenia are regulated by government resolutions, which state that the hospital must send the body for autopsy within 12 hours of death registration. This procedure was followed. From September 25, 2019, to September 27, 2019, the autopsied body was preserved in the morgue's refrigerator, and only at the request of the Police on September 30, 2019, for forensic examination purposes, the organs of the fetus were provided to law enforcement on the same day.

We have also requested a DNA examination.

Upon learning of the intrauterine death of the fetus, the husband caused a disturbance in the hospital by breaking the glass doors of the delivery room, disrupting the peace of other patients.

Furthermore, the director of the institute, academician of the National Academy of Sciences, PhD professor Razmik Abrahamyan, personally called and invited the parents of the deceased baby for a meeting, which was declined.

While we express our condolences to the young parents and, as physicians, fully acknowledge their emotional state, we consider the baseless noise and offensive statements made particularly on social media as unacceptable. Understanding the profound grief of the parents and the resulting emotional outbursts, it is necessary to await the results of the forensic examination and the conclusion of the investigative actions.”
